With the holidays over, I’ve found more time to get into the studio. I’ve finished a couple of new paintings. Here is a step-by-step evolution of one of them, “Monuments” See all of the new paintings on the website: MichaelBaum.com
Then, I block in the values, establishing the lightest and darkest areas.
Next, I begin to add color and detail…
…and continue to play with color, value, and detail…

Miniatures I’ve also been painting a lot of miniatures. Not only do they make nifty little paintings, they are an excellent way to get the essentials down quickly, keeping the image fresh. Then, if it has potential, I can use the mini as a study for a larger painting. Here are a few recent miniatures:
Eventually, these little paintings will be for sale. Let me know if you would like to reserve one.
Please visit my website to see all of my paintings and prints, galleries, and biographical material.
2009 Peace of Mind Calendar I am honored to be included in the Carson J Spencer Foundation’s 2009 Peace of Mind calendar. “Gathering Storm” appears on the cover as well as inside the calendar. The calendars are on sale for $15 at Peace of Mind Calendar. Sales of the calendar benefit the Carson J Spencer Foundation. To learn more about the work of the Foundation, go to Carson J Spencer Foundation.
Journal I haven’t written anything new for the journal lately, but promise to get going on it soon. Read the adventures (and non-adventures) of an artist. What’s the story behind the paintings? Every event is shockingly true. Read the Journal if you dare.
