In the Studio and on the Road
In December, I worked on smaller paintings and a couple of commissions.
I also had a great time painting a piece inspired by the paintings of Maynard Dixon, one of my favorite artist predecessors, famed for his paintings of the Southwest.
I emulated the strong graphic qualities you see in much of his work and employed elements of some of his paintings (the horse and rider and the cloud). The landscape (from my own photo) is Monument Valley, a place he painted often. Besides being great fun, emulating master painters is a revealing learning experience.
