In the Studio and on the Road...
May was a month of finishing paintings, getting ready for shows, attending shows and going on a great road trip.
Working on a few studies in the studio.
A Trip to New Mexico
We took a trip to New Mexico to attend the opening of the "River Runs Through It" show at Manitou Galleries. I had several paintings in the show, four of which sold right away. We enjoyed a celebratory opening, visiting with our friends at the gallery that we have not seen in over a year. We celebrated the return of live openings in a relaxed, easy-going setting, actually seeing people's smiling faces again. It's going to be a great year.
Plenty of smiles and laughter at the opening
While in New Mexico, we also took a quick day-trip to the Chama River Canyon near Abiquiu. We drove the tortuous, and at times, scary, road along the river, snapping photos, and oohing and aahing the whole way.

The Governor's Art Show
In May, we also attended the Gala Opening of the Governor's Art Show at the Loveland Museum in Loveland, Colorado. It was wonderful to have a live event this year. The show was presented as usual in the main galleries of the Museum. But this year with the pandemic still a concern, they moved the food and music outside under a big tent. This spread out the attendees and created a wonderful, festive atmosphere. It was simply brilliant. A huge thank you to all those who worked extra hard to make this such a success. And thank you to all those who attended and all those purchased artwork.
And thank you to the artists for their fine work, making for a very strong show. You can see it online, but see it in person if you can. You will be amazed.

Utah Road Trip
We rounded out the month with an eight-day road trip to Utah to collect much needed imagery. We began in Capitol Reef National Park, one of the most beautiful parks in the state. We spent several days hiking the trails, taking hundreds of photos. Many of these will become paintings over the next year.

Then we moved our home-base to Green River where we explored the area, including Arches National Park and the Moab area getting hundreds more images.

After a week of exploring, chasing the light, and dodging the heat, I collected hundreds of photos. Many paintings will come from this trip over the next several years.
