In the Studio...

The first ten days of July were all about my Summer Studio Sale. It was wonderful having folks visit.

Even during the sale, I kept painting, working on small works and one larger painting.

I often make changes to paintings as the painting progresses. Usually they are minor, but occasionally I make major changes when the muse demands it.

Sunshine in the Canyon progress 1_edited

"Sunshine in the Canyon" is a great example of this. The cliffs in the background on the right side were just not working. After adjusting and repainting them several times, I decided a major change was needed.

When creating a painting, I often work from several reference photos and even small studies. In this case, I found a reference photo from a slightly different view that revealed cliffs hidden in the view I had been working from. It worked beautifully.
